Our partners in Poland report:
“We conduct Emotional Intelligence and Conflict Resolution Skills training monthly every month. On average it is 25-30 people trained in how to use the Friendship Cards. In June, we did two family workshops at Family Camp in Poland and one specialist training. In July we ran Emotional Intelligence and Conflict Resolution Skills class for a group of preteens from Lviv, Ukraine.
We took a conflict situation that might have happened in any family between a parent and a child. The young people shared about possible feelings each of them could have experienced and possible wrong actions causing hurt feelings. Then we changed our focus onto alternative-right behaviour, which would have helped to keep the relationship close, discussed ways to make up, and finally, looked at what feelings would people experience after peacefully finishing the conflict.
Each of the young people was actively involved in every stage of learning the use of Friendship Cards. They seemed eager to share their feelings and put themselves in others' shoes. In the end, when asked to summarise what they learned, some wrote on the board: Conflicts do not always have a bad ending.
Emilia, caregiver, and leader of the group of kids after the lesson said: "I was surprised to see how engaged and active they had been! These kids are still childish in many ways, but I was amazed to see how they can think logically and make adult conclusions. I have seen them being more mature in this lesson than throughout the whole week. Thank you for these cards. They have helped our children to open".
Each kid received a set of cards as a gift to take home. Later Emilia wrote to me again and said: parents have been calling me and thanking me! These thanks go out to you, dear sponsors. The ability to resolve conflicts helps families stay together."
