From 13–25 May 2026, South Asia Without Orphans convened leaders in Nepal for trauma training, pre-service family care training, and a regional roundtable. These gatherings equipped country teams with practical tools, stronger partnerships, and clear next steps to help more children grow up in safe, loving families.
World Without Orphans brings together leaders from church, nonprofit, government, and business to advance family-based care. In South Asia, that means equipping local leaders, strengthening collaboration, and supporting country-led change.
Intervention 1: Trauma Training for Nepali Practitioners and Leaders (13–15 May 2026)
From 13–15 May, 27 Nepali practitioners and leaders received trauma training that strengthened their understanding of how trauma affects children and families and equipped them with practical, evidence-informed tools they can apply in their own ministries and organizations.
Intervention 2: Pre-Service Training for Foster, Adoptive, and Kinship Care (17–22 May 2026)
From 17–22 May, leaders from Nepal, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Singapore joined an intensive pre-service training for foster, adoptive, and kinship care. Contextualized for developing-country settings, this training strengthened both practical readiness and cross-sector collaboration, reinforcing the case for family-based care over institutional care.
This training brought together influential leaders from NGOs, churches, and government across Nepal, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Singapore to build practical skills and strengthen collaboration between civil society and public systems. As participants shared lessons from their own laws, practices, and challenges, the training reinforced a clear vision and evidence base: children thrive best in safe, loving families, and family-based care is stronger and healthier than institutional care.
Intervention 3: South Asia Regional Gathering and Roundtable in Nepal (23–25 May 2026)
From 23–25 May, a South Asia regional gathering and Nepal roundtable brought together 30+ leaders, with Bangladesh joining the represented countries. Led by Anu Silas and the SAWO team, with support from, the gathering aligned leaders around practical next steps for child protection, family-based care, and policy engagement.
One immediate outcome was a plan for church and faith leaders in Nepal to support policy and legislative change that improves care and protection for children.
What This Means for the Region
These two weeks in Nepal strengthened regional leadership, deepened trust across sectors, and sent leaders home with practical next steps to improve care for vulnerable children in their own countries.
