One of the critical steps to ending orphanhood is to build healthy family relationships. Sometimes this task is easier said than done. Most families have their fair share of misunderstandings and difficulties because humans are involved, and we are imperfect. Yet deep within us, God has put a desire for connection.
Building healthy relationships is one of the practical things we can do to help children feel loved and valued. This can be difficult due to trauma that parents have experienced themselves and to generational family trauma.
Patrick Rutikanga, Executive Director, Gisimba Memorial, Rwanda, talks about the importance of changing our mindsets to overcome that trauma and build healthier relationships with children.
