Svitlana Kharchenko

Executive Director, Ukraine Without Orphans

Svitlana joined the Ukraine Without Orphans network in Ukraine at the beginning of 2012 as Public Relations Manager. Today, she is the executive director and serves as an expert in protecting vulnerable children and families and developing inter-sectoral partnerships. These past 13 years have brought numerous challenges for Ukraine, including the military intervention by Russia in 2014 and the ongoing war across Ukrainian territory. This war continues to devastate not only the homes and families of Ukrainians but also claim their lives.

In addition to assisting the victims of the war, Ukraine Without Orphans has actively advocated for the reform of the institutional child care system and implemented powerful informational campaigns to promote the adoption of orphans. Also, UWO has developed quality tools for churches to serve vulnerable children and families and became a prototype for similar movements in other countries, fostering collaboration with representatives from various nations. Today, Ukraine Without Orphans stands as a strong platform for the exchange of expertise and the collective efforts of numerous organizations and hundreds of Christian churches.

UWO offers modern and effective programs and tools for churches and organizations to initiate and develop ministries, such as "Prayer for Orphans," support group meetings through "Hope Groups," an educational video course titled "A Child in a Family," and many others.
