Gibstar Makangila is the executive director of Circle of Hope (COH) and principal lead consultant of K’Star Corp Ltd., based in Lusaka, Zambia. He has worked in a people-focused transformative leadership and management consultancy for many years and has managed many PEPFAR, CDC, USAID, U.S. Department of Defense, and UNAIDS grants for HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care. He has also worked in rescuing, rehabilitating and resettling street children and orphans since 1999. Gibstar’s latest contribution has been the formulation of the COH Community Post (CP) model in 2018, which led to community posts associated with an over 1200% increase in new HIV case ascertainment in 18 months, with high linkage and retention in Zambia. Gibstar has continued to grow COH’s footprint, providing direct service delivery and technical assistance to the Zambian Ministry of Health through its provincial and district offices, as well as to other implementing partners, several government ministries and the private sector. Arising from the COH CP in 2022, Gibstar and his team have formulated the Malaika Safe Space for adolescent girls and young women and the Destiny Community Safe Space for boys; both are yielding very encouraging results. The COH model has received several recognitions and awards, including an invitation to address the U.S. State Department and a visit to the White House.
