It was Orphan Sunday 2020 when Anne Kasombo, World Without Orphans Kenya, and the team from Child in Family Focus – Kenya, set out to visit 40 children at Hosanna Children’s Home, a local orphanage outside of Nairobi. They visited with staff and dropped off donations for the orphanage.

As they were leaving, they ended up having a conversation with the orphanage director about making family care a possibility for the children there. Little did they know that conversation would lead to a true collaboration between the orphanage, government leaders, World Without Orphans, Child in Family Focus, and other key stakeholders that would gain momentum and eventually impact three counties in the region and become the catalyst for many children being placed in families.

“This Pure Religion (Orphan Sunday) Sunday 2024 was for us a great opportunity to reflect on what the Lord has done since the Orphan Sunday event of 8th November 2020,” said Kasombo. “We went back to the Hosanna Children’s Home for a Thanksgiving and prayer service and celebration complete with cake! We wanted to celebrate and thank the Lord for all the important milestones that were reached since that first meeting that led to care reform for Hosanna staff and management and actively beginning to place children in homes. Over the next several years, God used the work over the next several years, God used the work at Hossana and Pastor Isaac to open doors for more care reforms in two more counties.  This has led to 92 children being placed in foster care families, including 13 children from Hosanna’s Children’s Home, and the reunifications of 72 children back to their families!”

Hosanna had 40 children in 2020. Today they have 16 children and all of them have case management work that continues to work towards family care.
